Labour promises affordable housing for Gloucestershire
The Shadow Housing Secretary was in Gloucester today (12/12) outlining plans.
Angela Rayner visited a housing development on Winnycroft Lane in Gloucester.
She was taken on a site visit and helped lay a few roof tiles on the new builds.
It comes as Labour have said they will deliver the biggest boost to affordable, social and council housing for a generation, if they win the next general election.
Gloucester is a target seat for the party.
Angela Rayner said: "We've got the affordable homes grant, just under £2 billion of this was given back to the treasury, because the government have failed to get that out the door.
"In a housing crisis that's an absolute scandal.
"So we'd make sure we can drive that into local communities and make sure that housing targets are met.
She said the party want to work with local communities to develop housing.
As well as this, Labour wants to work with developers to get projects completed.
Angela Rayner said: "We'll challenge developers to make sure under the 106 notices that developers keep to their promises."
The current government have said it is committed to a new era of regeneration and housing delivery across England.
