The transfer of publicly-owned land in Gloucester for hundreds of new homes to be built on is a step closer after council chiefs agreed to talks with a housing association.

Gloucester City Council’s cabinet has agreed to negotiate the transfer of sites they own in Podsmead to Gloucester City Homes.

The housing association wants to build new a mix of affordable and market housing on land at Scott Avenue and Byron Avenue.

Their proposals could see up to 337 new homes built, with new shops, a community hub and two new parks.

This development would be subject to securing planning permission. Cabinet member Stephanie Chambers (C, Quedgeley Fieldcourt) said the transfer would enable the regeneration of their estate.

“A strategic partnership between Gloucester City Homes, Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire County Council and the MP of Gloucester was formed in 2017,”

“Together, a joint future vision for Matson and Podsmead was agreed.

The organisations agreed to work together to identify land and funding opportunities to improve housing, local shops, facilities education, employment, health and the environment.”

She said the final agreement would be brought back to cabinet when it is available for review and consideration.
