Police launch investigation after man killed in Gloucester collision

Officers are appealing to witnesses of the crash to come forward

Gloucestershire Police have launched an investigation after a man died in a fatal crash in Gloucester.

Officers first received reports of an incident taking place on Castlemeads Way shortly before 9:15pm on Saturday evening (August 10th).

Responding to reports of a collision between a car and bike, when emergency services arrived on the scene, they found a dark blue Volkswagen that collided with a black pedal cycle.

The cyclist, an 18-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and required emergency medical treatment, but despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A road closure was put in place following the incident as emergency services carried out their initial lines of enquiry. This closure has now been lifted and the road is open to the public again.

The victim's next of kin has been informed of his death, while a 23-year-old man from Newent was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police remanded the suspect in custody, where he currently remains as he is being questioned by investigators.

Officers are now appealing for information and witnesses following the incident and are urging anyone with footage of the area at the time of the crash to come forward.

In particular, those who may have dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time of the crash is being especially urged to come forward as soon as possible.
