Gloucester's popular car boot sale is to make a return this year, as the City Council's chosen a new operator.

The events at Hempsted Meadows are to be taken over by a business that is said to have 'extensive experience of running multiple car boot sales across the country'.

The name of the operator hasn't been revealed by Gloucester City Council at this stage, but they say the lease is being granted following 'a rigorous and robust market assessment process'.

It's also believed the new company wants to hold other events at the site, such as live music, drive-in cinemas and fitness activities.

That's aimed at 'ensure a vibrant, immersive, and engaging environment for its users and the community'.

The business also has to submit annual plans to set out their management of the land, public facilities, marshalling, dealing with waste and flytipping and other issues.

It's hoped the lease negotiations will be finalised within a few weeks.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council said: "We’re delighted to see the return of the car boot sale, which we know is extremely popular and a great way of recycling and reducing what goes to landfill.

The new operator impressed us with their application and ideas, which will expand what is offered at the site, and we look forward to welcoming people back to the Gloucester Car Boot Sale."
