Gloucester car boot to return in the spring
Gloucester City Council bosses say they will assess the bids for the new 15-year lease at Hempsted Meadows.
Gloucester’s car boot sale will return in 2025, say city council chiefs as several offers are in for the Hempsted Meadows.
Gloucester City Council bosses say they will assess the bids for the new 15-year lease for the site through a rigorous sorting process which is both fair and transparent.
Car boot sales returned to the site at David Hook Way on a temporary basis earlier this year while they invited applications from potential operators for the long term lease.
The site which is around three acres is limited in its uses due to being prone to flooding and can only be used during good weather.
It is best suited for temporary uses as it can’t be developed due to the instability of the ground and it needs regular maintenance by the council, chiefs say.
The council will be undertaking essential maintenance at the site and the car boot is expected to reopen in the spring.
A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council said: “Gloucester City Council would like to restate its commitment to the future of Gloucester Car Boot Sale at Hempstead Meadow. We’re very aware of the popularity of the car boot and the benefits of recycling.
“We’ve now received several offers for the new 15-year lease and will assess them through a rigorous scoring process which is both fair and transparent. As soon as the work for essential maintenance is completed, we intend for the car boot to reopen in the spring.”
