Funding for Cheltenham projects fighting climate change
A total pot worth £50,000 was made available for 6 projects in the town
Projects in Cheltenham, which are aimed at fighting climate change are benefitting from funding from the Borough Council's - called Cheltenham Zero Community Grant.
A total pot worth £50,000 was made available for community groups, as part of work by the authority to address the climate emergency.
The projects to receive funding for 2022/23 include;
Hester’s Way Partnership
Who are receiving £5,616 for 220 new lights fitted at two premises, reducing the carbon output by an estimated 5,012kg a year and reducing costs by 65%.
1st Prestbury Scouts Groups
The Scouts Group will use £1,1815 to replace windows in need of repair with double glazed alternatives, to reduce energy use in the building.
Christ Church Cheltenham
They plan on spending £6,400 of funding on modernising lighting at Christ Church to save energy and benefit both church groups and other community users.
East Glos Club Ltd
Have received £8,000 of funding, which they will use to retrofit and install LED lighting in the squash and tennis courts to produce substantial energy savings.
10th Cheltenham Scout Group
The 10th Scout Group will improve the energy efficiency of the scout hut in Pittville Park, to reduce heat loss, improve insulation and replace lighting, and have received £7,771 of funding
Cheltenham Festivals
£10,000 will be used for Cheltenham Festivals to work with the council, exploring a range of energy efficient measures, to reduce carbon emissions across their events.
Cllr Alisha Lewis, cabinet member for climate emergency, said: “I’m so pleased we are able to support such an interesting and positive range of projects as part of our aims to promote Net Zero action."
“These projects all have a carbon reduction and energy efficiency focus, which helps to reduce energy bills at a time when many groups need it most, as well as cutting emissions."
