A fund worth £400,000 has opened up in Gloucestershire - and community groups are being invited to apply for a share of the cash through the County Council’s Thriving Communities Grant programme.
The scheme supports local organisations running projects that help people stay well, connected, and independent for longer.
Since launching in 2018, the grant has backed more than 370 projects, investing £2.8 million into local initiatives that reduce isolation and improve physical and mental wellbeing.
Examples of successful recipients in the past include the Friendship Café in Gloucester which launched a wellbeing programme for vulnerable residents, while the Marah Trust in Stroud continued offering hot meals and vital support to tackle isolation.
In Tewkesbury, Mindsong expanded its uplifting Sing 2 Remember sessions for people with dementia and their families, and Cheltenham’s Mental Health Carer Support Group continued its essential work supporting carers.
Meanwhile, Great Oaks Hospice in the Forest of Dean extended its counselling and bereavement services, and the Avening Community Café remained a welcoming hub for isolated and bereaved villagers.
Councillor Dr Kate Usmar, Cabinet Member for Adults' Support & Independence, said: “It’s fantastic to support the amazing work happening in communities across Gloucestershire.
"These grants empower groups to turn great ideas into action - helping local people to stay well, feel connected and live independently for longer.”
