A former teaching assistant from Swindon has been sentenced after being found guilty of serious sexual offences against children.

Sam Powers was given a 20-year custodial sentence, four years of which will be served on licence.

The 28 year old had earlier pleaded guilty to an additional 44 counts of sexual offences against children.

Powers was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register and issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a minimum of 25 years.

Police paid tribute to numerous survivors who bravely came forward to give evidence which has led to the conviction of Powers.
