A former employee at Age UK in Gloucestershire's being questioned over suspected fraud.

Police say they're investigating after the charity discovered it had been defrauded out of almost £460,000.

Gloucestershire Police says it's interviewed a woman under caution in relation to the allegations and are continuing to investigate.

The charity has called it as 'sizeable and systemic' fraud which has been ongoing since 2016.

They say they are extremely sad and disappointed, and the elderly people they support are their main priority.

Gloucestershire Police said in a statement: "We can confirm we have received a report from Age UK of suspected fraudulent activity.

"A woman has been interviewed under caution in relation to the allegations and our investigation is ongoing."

In a statement, Age UK said: "We can confirm that a police investigation is currently underway and a former employee is being questioned. As this is an on-going criminal investigation, we are supporting the police with their enquiries and are unable to comment further at this time.

"We are extremely sad and disappointed that this has happened however the older people we support remain our priority."
