A woman from the Forest of Dean has made it to the finals of the Formula Woman Nations Cup.

28-year-old Becky Frankland is a Go-Kart mechanic at JDR Karting in Gloucester and will compete against 38 women from 25 countries who recently qualified at The World Qualifiers in Dubai in December.

The inaugural Formula Woman Nations Cup is a three-day female racing series which they say is aimed at empowering girls and women from all over the world in what is a male dominated field.

Becky told Greatest Hits Radio she hopes to inspire young girls to get involved: “I’d love to do stuff like that, like help younger girls get into it and show them that you don’t have to be a boy to do these things, and it doesn’t matter you’re just as good.”

Becky says sometimes women in the field must work harder to be taken seriously but progress is being made in the industry.

On breaking stereotypes, she said “I have eyelash extensions and everything so I guess on paper someone probably wouldn’t look and me and go oh yeah, she’s obviously into cars and driving and racing.

“But I kind of like the fact that you can look that way you can be like that, and you can still be good at these things.”

The event is set to take place from the 1st to 4th of May in Dubai.
