Forest Green Rovers unveil World's first digital kit
The strips are the most sustainable yet and are made from pixels
Britain's greenest football club has unveiled the world's first digital football kit.
Forest Green Rovers have ditched the bamboo and coffee grounds which are normally used and have released their 2021/22 strip made entirely of pixels.
The club have teamed up with clothing brand republiqe to break new ground in the world of football kit.
Fans can get a digital replica kit by uploading a photo of themselves which will be then be fitted with the new strip which they can then use the photo online.
The kit takes the club’s famous dazzling zebra print and electrifies it with a jolt of energy.
Following its switch to bamboo fabric in 2019, the club continues to pursue more sustainable materials.
This season they are rolling out an innovative new low impact fabric, made from waste coffee grounds and recycled water bottles.
Dale Vince, Chairman, Forest Green Rovers, said: “Digital fashion is a really exciting but improbable frontier.
"It’s super-low impact, and we’re really excited to launch our shirts made from nothing but pixels.
"We’ve also worked really hard to lower the impact of the real kit too – thanks to our new coffee grounds material, available in limited numbers.
"This is the direction of travel, and hopefully more clubs will wake up and smell the coffee and push the pixels.”
As well as being able to buy the digital edition today, fans are also able to pre-order a physical kit from the FGR website, to be despatched ahead of the new season.
The club is selling a limited number of shirts made in the new coffee fabric, as well as a lower-priced fan edition – made from the club’s existing sustainable bamboo fabric blend.
