A football coach has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the serious sexual assault of a 15 year-old girl in Stroud.

It happened in 2005.

Paul Edwards, who's 62, and of Marling Crescent, Farmhill, Stroud, appeared at Gloucester Crown Court.

His accuser reported the offence in 2020 - and Edwards was tried in January last year - but the jury was discharged after failing to agree on a verdict.

After a re-trial at Cirencester Court in June, he was convicted of one count of rape.

Edwards was also placed on the sex-offender register for life - and has been barred from working with children.
