The Trussell Trust Foodbank in Cheltenham have seen a dramatic rise in the number of people using their service as the food affordability crisis continues.

The charity helped 50% more people in January 2024 compared with January 2023.

This follows a study by consumer brand Which? has revealed that one in eight households are skipping meals across the UK.

Sarah Baker, Operations Manager, at Cheltenham foodbank, said: "I think a lot of parents prioritise their children over themselves. They know as long as their children are fed they feel like they are surviving and don't even think about the cost to themselves.

"We often see parents who won't of had breakfast when they come in or may of skipped tea yesterday as well but want to make sure their children are fed.

"The reality that people are skipping meals to try to make supplies go further is definitely a reality for a lot of families."
