Tewkesbury Borough Council has opened applications for the Community Recovery Grant.

It means residents whose homes were either internally flooded or deemed unliveable for longer than 48 hours can apply for up to £500 per household. The money can be used to help with any immediate costs needed to recover.

The funding has been made available by the Government to local authorities who have been significantly impacted by the Storm Henk flooding.

Maggie O'Leary, a Tewkesbury resident, has applied for the funding today (15/1). She is currently living in a hotel whilst she repairs her home.

Maggie said it could be another couple of weeks before she can move back into her house.

She is very worried about the future if flooding like this continues.

Maggie said: "Nobody will buy our houses now because they will flood, eventually they'll just be abandoned. I've seriously thought of just walking away from it."

The grant could be a big help though. Maggie is hoping to us the money to improve her flood defences.

She said: "We could do with getting some different flood gates, some that we can put up quickly and will work."
