The family of a man who died in a stabbing near Tewkesbury have paid tribute to him.

Matthew Boorman lost his life on Tuesday afternoon, in the Wheatpieces estate of Walton Cardiff.

'A father to three gorgeous young children'

"Matthew was a loving husband and a father to three gorgeous young children who all love him and miss him tremendously.

"He was an uncle, a brother and a son. It broke our hearts to lose him too soon," his family said.

What happened in the attack?

Police were called to the Snowdonia Road/Arlington Road area just after 17:20 BST, following reports a man had a knife. Officers believed he was attacking several people.

A second man, aged in his 40s, suffered serious stab wounds and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was in a critical but stable condition.

A woman, in her 30s, has been treated at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, after sustaining a wound to her leg.

Gloucestershire Police have arrested a man in his 50s. The Force has also confirmed it's not currently seeking anyone else in connection with its enquiries.

'Those who saw what happened will be traumatised'

Chief Inspector Roddy Gosden, from the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Local Policing Area, released a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

"This was a horrific incident in a quiet residential area. We understand those who saw what happened will be traumatised and many in the local community will be upset and worried.

"Our thanks to those who were first at the scene, including two off duty police officers, who bravely intervened to tackle and restrain the suspect.

"Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who died and those who were injured. The next of kin are currently receiving support from our family liaison officers," he said.

Officers are now urging people with any information to call 101, quoting incident 320 of 5 October. Anyone with video content of the incident is also being asked not to share the footage on social media.

The investigation continues.
