Engines called out from across the region as barn fire breaks out in Westerleigh

Avon Fire and Rescue tell us the incident happened at just before midday today

Avon Fire and Rescue have been called out to a barn fire in South Gloucestershire - saying it was 'well alight' when they came to attend it earlier today.

The fire (as of 13:30) is still being tackled by the force, who were called out at just before midday to reports of the barn ablaze - which is located near to a cemetery in Westerleigh.

A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 11:48 today to a barn fire in Westerleigh, we have nine pumps in attendance from Hicks Gate, Yate, Patchway, Temple and Bath.

"The barn was well alight on arrival and one cow shed was being affected by smoke.

"Crews are using 2 45MM jet and one covering jet to tackle the fire."

We have also been informed by the fire service that the cattle which have been impacted by the barn fire have now been moved to a place of safety while they continue to tackle the blaze.
