Gloucester MP Richard Graham is campaigning to make spiking a single offence under criminal law.

Currently, spiking is dealt with under a range of general sexual offences .

This will be discussed in a debate in Westminster today, lead by Judith Cummins MP, and Caroline Noakes MP.

They're hoping tougher laws on this issue with reduce loop holes in prosecution.

Spiking is especially a problem this time of year with more people heading out on Christmas and New Year's parties.

Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner, Chris Nelson, said it's a time police usually see a rise in incidents.

He is concerned about the issue and is backing Richard Graham MP's work.

PCC Chris Nelson said: "If your drink is spiked the consequences can be horrific.

"Talking to women, they are very worried and afraid about spiking and it's the fear of the consequences that really worries women.

"This issue of misogyny is so deeply engrained in our culture, too many men don't think about what they're doing and they think it's funny."
