Dog owners reminded not to leave pets in hot cars
Temperatures are expected to reach the high twenties in Gloucestershire this week.
With temperatures across Gloucestershire peaking at 29C this week, dog owners are being reminded not to leave their pets in hot cars.
Experts warn a dog could die in a hot car in just minutes, and winding a window down is not enough to help your dog stay cool.
Owners are being asked to think twice about car trips with a dog. And to consider travelling at cooler times of the day.
Carrie Stones, from the RSPCA, said: "We do have a problem with heat related illnesses in dogs. Sadly dogs are still being left in hot cars, 42% of owners say they would leave their dog in a hot car.
"Cars can become hot very quickly and to leave you dog in a hot car could leave them critically ill or in a worse case scenario they could lose their life.
"If you see a dog in a hot car please call 999 and report it to the police as they have the authority to enter vehicles."
