Detectives given more time to question Cheltenham murder suspect

A 77-year-old man was arrested following the death of a woman on Saturday morning

A custody extension has been granted by Cheltenham magistrates for a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was taken into custody on Saturday, 31 August.

His arrest followed emergency services being called to a report of a woman who had been seriously injured at a property on Fairfield Road at around 3:30 on Saturday morning.

A 66-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

Officers remain at the address and specialist officers are providing support to the family.

The 77-year-old Cheltenham man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder, and remains in custody.

Detectives have now been given until this Monday afternoon to continue questioning him in connection with the incident.

The Major Crime Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
