Dementia charity reminds people to look out for loved ones with the illness
Gloucestershire charity, Mindsong, warns families large gatherings can be triggering.
Mindsong dementia charity said large Christmas gatherings can be triggering for people with dementia.
They said common triggers are loud noises, and bright lights.
As well it can be difficult for people with dementia to focus when multiple conversations are happening at once.
The Charity recognises dementia impacts everyone differently, but is asking families to consider what could be overwhelming for their loved ones over the festive period.
Kate Hicks Beach, Director of Volunteer Lead Services, at Mindsong, said: "If you can find somewhere in the house that isn't too noisy for them to go and people can go one at a time to chat to that person.
"Remember some of the triggers: loud noises, bright lights, being in a different place.
"If they're coming out to meet you that can be really disorientating, they might be really anxious about leaving their home.
"If you do know someone with dementia, if you can, make an effort to pop in to see them to make sure they feel included in the festivities."
