Stroud District Council (SDC) is warning car owners not scan bogus QR codes on ticket machines.

They say their officers found stickers with scam QR codes on council ticket machines.

According to SDC, the QR codes link mobile phones to a website which charges users to park, using credit or debit cards.

The Council says it does not use QR codes in this way and that parking at SDC car parks is paid for using the MiPermit app, or with cash at ticket machines.

They say the scam stickers have been removed, and they're monitoring the situation closely.

SDC says they're also aware of a different scam where a text message tells people they have to pay a fine.

The Council says Penalty Charge Notices are never issued by text, but by attaching a notice to the vehicle’s windscreen.
