Conservatives make significant gains in Gloucester City elections
They boosted their majority by 13 and gained 26 seats in total
Conservatives at Gloucester City Council have made significant gains in this year's local elections.
The Tories now have a total of 26 seats, with the Liberal Democrats retaining 10 and the remaining 3 going to Labour.
Familiar faces in the Labour Party lost their positions including in Barton and Tredworth where they lost a seat previously held for 11 years.
Further blows came as the part lost all three seats to the Tories in Matson and Robinswood.
The losses for Labour did not stop there: they also lost seats in Podsmead and Moreland.
The Liberal Democrats also made some gains on the City Council. Sebastien Field gained the seat from Labour in Podsmead and Ashley Bowkett was elected in Barnwood which was previously held by the Conservatives.
The leader of Gloucester City Council, Richard Cook said he was "delighted" with the result.
The current make up of the council is as follows:
Conservatives: 26 seats
Liberal Democrats: 10 seats
Labour: 3 seats
