Kate Strong is taking on the challenge as part of Green Football Weekend, a campaign which mobilises fans, clubs, leagues and partners to take action on climate.

Ms Strong will start her ride at 9am today (1/2), and will cycle 100 miles before stopping at a football fan's house in Barnet, north London, overnight. The bike ride will resume on Friday.

She hopes to give the ball to the players at roughly 9.30am on Saturday.

The challenge aims to raise awareness of green travel. Ms Strong hopes it will inspire football fans do their bit to help reduce the effects of climate change.

Green Football Weekend is asking fan to take part, on their website they said: "If the UK's football fans had one veggie meal a day, we could save the equivalent to removing 5.5 million cars from the road, each year."

Ms Strong said: "Green Football Weekend hopes to find out simple ways we can protect our sport from climate change."

"The bike ride was the idea of Forest Green Rovers, they wanted a way to talk about green travel and they came up with this crazy idea of having someone travel with the football from their stadium to Colchester where they are playing on Saturday."

"I am going to take two days. I'm expecting to be on the road for about 12 to 15 hours over the two days."
