Reclaim The Night march held in Cirencester tonight
A march will be held in Cirencester tonight (24/11) to raise awareness of violence towards women and girls.
It is part of the national movement Reclaim the Night, who have been raising awareness of the issue for over 40 years.
The event is organised by Gloucestershire’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (GRASAC), a charity which offers practical and emotional support to anyone who is suffering from sexual violence.
Rachel Hole, services and training manager at GRASAC said: “Unfortunately I think violence against women and girls is a more important issue than it has ever been.”
The charity believe the responsibility to keep themselves safe, should not solely be on women, and others can help as well.
Rachel said: “if people stopped cat-calling and wolf-whistling or making sexist jokes it helps to create a feeling of a safer environment.
“We want to remind everyone the responsibility shouldn’t be on women to keep themselves safe, it should be on the people harming them”
