Cirencester history festival returns for its second year today with 10 days packed full of events and activities.

Running from 24 October to 2 November, the programme of talks, music, and immersive experiences will be taking place across seventeen venues in Cirencester.

The festival includes talks from foreign affairs expert Tim Marshall, historian Philippa Langley, and ‘This Country’ actor Charlie Cooper.

The festival will shine a light on the Cotswolds unique history including a display at the Corinium Museum of two rare Roman ‘Spatha’ swords, discovered in March 2023 in Willersey, North Cotswolds.

Festival producer, Jess Yarrow told Greatest Hits Radio the festival attracts a lot of interest from locals: “There’s something about the local stuff that does bring people together and is quite sort of bonding and special and it’s very very popular, you can tell that from the sales figures.

“But also just any sort of festival seems to be such a nice community bonding thing.”

Councillor Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member for health, culture, and visitor experience said: "This festival is a great opportunity to celebrate the Cotswold district’s rich history.

“I attended last year and I’ve already booked my tickets for an event this time.

“It’s a boost for the local economy and an opportunity for all of us to connect with the stories that shaped our district."
