Longfield Hospice volunteers will be collecting Christmas trees from people's houses who have signed up to the scheme.

Volunteers will be asking for donations to the hospice in return.

They're hoping to raise £50,000 this year, this could help fund over 900 hours of Hospice at Home care.

The trees will be recycled and the wood chippings can be used throughout the community, such as for path covers.

Councillor, Chloe Turner, said: "It's just a really good way to make sure the trees are used again, the chippings are used in various places across the district as cover for paths and ground cover."

Cllr Chole Turner also gave advice on what else you can recycle this year.

She said: "Most Christmas cards these days can be recycled but if it does have glitter on it they can't be recycled.

"If you give your wrapping paper a bit of a scrunch and if it holds it shape it's likely to be recyclable and can be recycled with the rest of your paper and card."

Registration for collection has already opened and will close on 9 January.
