Projects led by community groups, residents and parishes will be able to bid for a share of the £50,000 being made available.

In 2019, Cheltenham Borough Council declared a climate emergency and a commitment to being a carbon neutral council and borough by 2030.

The council's roadmap to eliminate the borough carbon footprint, includes a climate action fund to help finance the road to zero carbon. In 2022, the borough council has funding of £50,000, to allocate grants of up to £10,000 to assist local community organisations with the implementation of energy efficiency projects.

Darren Knight, executive director for people and change, said "It’s vitally important that grassroots communities are involved in the efforts to help Cheltenham push for carbon neutrality by 2030.

"That’s why it’s right that we empower people to bring forward projects that will reduce the borough’s impact on the environment. I know there are so many great ideas out there and look forward to seeing what our resourceful communities can do."

Who can apply?

  • Community or voluntary groups
  • Registered charities
  • Community interest companies
  • Town and parish councils

All applicants must be signed up to the Cheltenham Zero Partnership.

How much can be applied for?

Any group may apply for a single award up to a maximum of £10,000. As there is only £50,000 available in total, the council will look to fund only those projects that offer the best value for money and applications which evidence match funding will be viewed favourably.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Sunday 3 July.
