Cheltenham venue highlights importance of grassroots venues
The Frog and Fiddle are taking part in Independent Venue Week.
The Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham is taking part in a week long celebration of the arts.
Independent Venue Week is a UK wide celebration of grassroots venues and local emerging talent.
The annual 7 day celebration is running until the 2nd of February and puts on thousands of shows across the country.
The aim is to highlight the importance of these venues in the music industry and how they help support artists get their first show as they grow.
Joe Barton from the Frog and Fiddle explained why the week is so important for the industry; “without venues likes us and weeks like this to celebrate it you wouldn’t have the stepping stone venues to get up into larger shows”.
Music venues across the country continue to struggle financially with many shutting down over the last year.
Independent venue week is an opportunity to support your local live music scene and arts community.
Barton said “if you have enough money to effectively go and buy yourself a pint, maybe have one pint less and put that into the local live music scene”.
