Man arrested in connection with sexual assault in Cheltenham

Police have arrested a man following a sexual assault in Cheltenham.

The 26-year-old remains in custody as officers continue to carry out their enquiries.

It happened at Pittville Park yesterday morning (Saturday 12 June).

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said:

"An arrest has been made in connection with the sexual assault at Pittville Park which was reported on Saturday 12 June.

"A 26-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody at this time.

"Officers are continuing to conduct enquiries at the park and the scene guard will remain in place until this has finished."

Update from police at 8.40am on Sunday 13 June

The 26-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the sexual assault has been released on police bail.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said:

"The 26-year-old man who was arrested in connection with yesterday's sexual assault at Pittville Park has since been released on police bail.

"Officers have now completed their enquiries at the park and the scene guard is no longer in place however investigating officers are still asking anyone with information to come forward.

"The victim will continue to be supported by specially trained officers."
