Council chiefs sorry for delays in responding to calls for a pedestrian crossing where a child was hit by a car
Highways bosses have apologised for the delays in putting a new pedestrian crossing on a Cheltenham road.
More than 750 people are calling for a crossing on Tommy Taylor's Land near Pittville Park.
People have been calling for it for years. But after an 11-year-old boy was hit by a car on the crossing a petition was started, led by Cheltenham Borough Councillor Julian Tooke.
He said: "Recently, we got hundreds of more signatures for our petition from runners taking part in the Pittville Park run. There's a real strength of feeling.
"No one else should get hurt on this dangerous road."
Fire, community safety and libraries cabinet member Dave Norman said the council apologises for not contacting Cllr Tooke sooner.
“We want to see a reduction in serious injuries and deaths on our roads which is why we have reinstated the joint working of Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.”
“We apologise for not contacting Cllr Tooke sooner and will be in touch with him to advise him of our approach. Last time it was assessed Tommy Taylor’s Lane wasn’t considered in need of a crossing.”
