Cheltenham man arrested after chasing another man with a meat cleaver

A 37-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray.

Armed officers made an arrest in Cheltenham this evening after a report a man with a weapon had been seen chasing another man.

Police were called to The Bank House Wetherspoon pub on Clarence Street with a report two men, one who was in possession of a meat cleaver, were chasing another man.

The incident happened around 5.30pm today, Tuesday 2 May, and threats were made towards the victim before the offender left the pub and then got into a vehicle.

Armed officers went to the scene, stopped a vehicle and an arrest was made.

A 37-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray. He remains in police custody.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the second man.

No injuries have been reported to police. A meat cleaver and a vehicle have also been seized.
