Fire at Cheltenham block of flats treated as arson

A fire in a block of flats in Cheltenham last night (Monday 31st March) is being treated as a suspected arson.

Emergency services were called to a property in Goldsmith Road in the St Marks area at around 11.00pm.

Residents reported a loud bang and found a lit firework - three people were able to get out of the property safely.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue put out the blaze, with only superficial damage caused to the building.

Police are now investigating, with no arrests made at this stage.

They're carrying out forensic examinations and house to house enquiries, with an appeal for anyone with information to contact officers.

Those with home CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcam footage from the area around the time are especially asked to pass it on.
