A department store in Cheltenham has closed after over 200 years
Cavendish House closes its doors after serving shoppers for 201 years.
The store opened in 1823 when Cheltenham was a popular tourist destination, but has now closed after over 200 years in the town.
House of Fraser took over the store 54 years ago. In recent years House of Fraser has had to close a number of its outlets.
Local residents have have described the closure as a huge shame.
One shopper in Cheltenham today said: "I think it's a huge loss to the town, it was a landmark for the town. I've always known Cavendish House so it will be a huge loss."
Whilst another resident said: "That was the main shop in town and I think it is a shame but I hope something comes in place of it."
Site owner, Canada Life Asset Management, has said previously it is exploring options with Cheltenham Borough Council to redevelop the building.
