Antisemitism incidents on the rise in the UK
The Community Security Trust has recorded higher numbers of incidents than in decades.
A charity that monitors antisemitism in the UK says Jews face ‘more hatred and pressure’ than they have for decades.
The Community Security Trust (CST) found that over 3,500 incidents were recorded in 2024.
A rise in antisemitic incidents began after the Hamas attack on October 7th 2023.
The CST said 2024 was a year of "sustained levels of antisemitism" amid attention on the conflict in Gaza, and pro-Palestine demonstrations in the UK.
They recorded over 200 incidents in each month except December.
Before October 2023 there had only been five separate months when this number was recorded.
Jewish leaders are calling for more to be done to protect the Jewish community amid these rises and to educate people on antisemitism.
Rabbai Anna Gerrard from the Three Counties Liberal Jewish Community told Greatest Hits Radio “The best way to tackle any kind of prejudice, particularly racial, ethnic and religious prejudice is through awareness raising and education”.
Talking on the rise in incidents Gerrard said “When they increase because of particular events in my view it’s just an excuse.”
“People that want to express hatred in vicious ways will do that and will use excuses to do that whatever happens”.
