Gloucestershire residents protest against lack of A48 pedestrian crossings
Residents from three villages say they risk their lives everyday when they cross the road
Residents from three Gloucestershire villages are taking part in a protest today. They are concerned over the busy traffic on the A48 trunk road, and want more safety improvements made for pedestrians.
Residents from Alvington, Aylburton and Westbury-on-Severn will all join together as they cross the A48 collectively, to highlight problems faced.
It's thought the protest could cause delays in both directions.
Those who live in the villages say that 10,000 vehicles pass through the area every day, with not enough pedestrian crossings in place for people to cross.
Richard Heys, a parish councillor in Alvington, says: "The A48 is a really busy road, and we don't have any controlled road crossings. In the village we've had two fatalities on this road, and our aim is not to experience a third."
The protests started at midday in Alvington. Residents in Aylburton will then follow at 1pm and the people of Westbury will join them at 2pm.
