First Glasgow bar workers' strike in 20 years to go ahead
Unite members at 13th Note will walk out on 14 July
Unite the union members are planning to walk out of 13th Note Bar in Glasgow, unless “drastic” improvements are made by the owners.
It will be the first bar strike to take place in the city in over 20 years, and staff voted by 100% in favour of the action.
The dispute is over ongoing pay issues, as well as demands for improvements to health and safety, and achieving trade union recognition.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham said: “Unite’s members at the 13th Note bar in Glasgow are united in taking a stand.
She continued: “That says a lot about them, but it surely also says a lot about their employer."
The action will begin on Friday 14 July and will continue every weekend until 6 August.
"It's time for that to change."
Unite’s lead rep at 13th Note, Nick Troy, added: "For seventeen weeks, we have been trying to reason with the management at 13th Note.
“From wages to hygiene, to understaffing and our demands for union recognition, we're still not being properly listened to.
“Surely the strength of the strike vote shows it’s time for that to change.”
13th Note’s Jacqueline Fennessy said: “There is absolutely no ‘trade union victimisation and intimidation’
“An acas reconciliation meeting was agreed with Unite and myself last week.
“I have absolutely no say in a union strike going ahead.”
