Woman hospitalised after serious assault in Greenock

The incident happened in the Weir Street area at just after midnight

A woman is recovering in hospital after being attacked in Greenock in the early hours of this morning.

The 23 year old was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley after the assault at just after midnight.

The incident occurred in the Weir Street area of the town, at the junction with Sinclair Street.

Police presence remains at the site, and they are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Greenock CID Detective Inspector, Nikki Wake, said: “We’d like to thank those members of the public who have contacted police already, and are asking for anyone else with information to please come forward.

“If you saw anything suspicious in the Weir Street or Sinclair Street areas, or believe you can assist our enquiries, please call 101, quoting incident 0010 of 6 June, 2023. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
