Vital road works are being carried out in South Lanarkshire later this month.

Essential carriageway repairs will be undertaken on Main Street at Bellshill Road, Uddingston.

Main Street will be closed from 7am on Saturday, August 23, until 6am on Monday, August 25, with temporary traffic lights in place to manage traffic flow while this section of the resurfacing work gets underway.

Bellshill Road will remain closed between Main Street and Springfield Crescent until Friday, August 20, to allow for the completion of the rest of the work.

No motor vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to park or drive on the road during this time.

The signed diversion route for Main Street will use Main Street, Glasgow Road, New Edinburgh Road, Bellshill Road, Fallside Road and Uddingston Road.

The signed diversion route for Bellshill Road will use Wilkie Road, Hornal Road and Main Street.

Colin Park, the council’s Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services believes long-term gain will outweigh short-term pain for drivers.

He said: “We are aware of the disruption that these works will cause but hope that the long-term benefits will be appreciated by road users.

“Your patience and understanding during the short-term period of inevitable inconvenience will be much appreciated.”
