Tributes paid to Hamilton teen who died after falling from Ibiza balcony

Tributes are pouring in after the tragic death of a teenage girl from Hamilton fell from a balcony in Ibiza.

19-year-old Emma Ramsay was pronounced dead at the scene at Hotel Vibra District at around 3am on Tuesday.

The Strathclyde University law student had been pictured enjoying a holiday with friends, at Hï Ibiza club and Cafe Mambo just hours before the tragic accident.

Writing on Instagram, Emma's mum Barbara Smith said: "My angel Emma, I don't even know where to begin.

"You are my daughter, my best friend in the whole world and I am going to miss you more than words will ever express.

"Rest in peace my sweet angel, and sleep tight. Mummy loves you so so much."

'Kindest, funniest girl'

One friend online wrote: "Rest in peace - so glad we have the memories to last a lifetime.

"One of the kindest and funniest girls I had the pleasure of being friends with."

Another said: "My beautiful girl, I'm heartbroken and will miss and love you forever and always."

Headteacher of St John Ogilve High School, Lorna Lawson, said: "We are shocked and saddened at the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of our former Head Girl, Emma Ramsay.

"Emma was an incredibly kind, hardworking, bright and talented pupil who contributed a great deal to our school community.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Emma will be missed and will forever hold a special place in our school."

Colette Watson, Headteacher at St Mark’s Primary in Hamilton said: “Emma was a lovely girl, caring and considerate and many of our staff have truly fond memories of her time with us.

“This is terribly sad news, and our thoughts, prayers and profound sympathies go out to Emma’s family and friends.”

A spokesperson for the University of Strathclyde said: “Emma was a much-loved member of our student community and we are shocked and saddened by her death.

"Everyone at the University offers our deepest condolences to Emma’s family and all those affected by this terrible incident.

“Our wellbeing team is on hand to offer appropriate support to Emma’s classmates and the wider Strathclyde community at this difficult time.”

A spokesperson for The Foreign Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."
