Thousands of pounds worth of life-saving equipment has been returned to two Scottish fire stations after being stolen earlier this year.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the theft from the stations in Biggar, South Lanarkshire, and Duns in the Scottish Borders.

Between Monday, 9 January, 2023 and Tuesday, 10 January, Duns Fire Station on Newton Street in the town was broken into and ÂŁ30,000 worth of equipment stolen.

On 11 January, 2023, the station on Station Road in Biggar was broken into. The building was damaged and equipment worth ÂŁ3,500 was stolen.

Detective Inspector Alan Sharp said: “Following enquiries the equipment has been recovered and returned to the fire stations.

“It is deplorable that anyone would target an emergency service.

"The equipment taken from the fire stations is used in life saving situations. We are pleased that we were able to recover it and it has now been returned.”

The 21-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
