Scott McTominay nominated for Ballon d'Or

Scotland international Scott McTominay has been officially nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

The 28-year old has been recognised among the world's elite after a fantastic first season at Napoli.

Caroline Weir has also been nominated for the Women's Ballon d'Or - becoming the first Scot to make the shortlist since its introduction in 2018.

McTominay scored 13 goals and got 6 assists as he played a big role in helping his side win the Serie A title.

He also continued his impressive form at international level - taking his goal tally for Scotland up to 12 in 61 caps.

McTominay becomes the first Scot since Ally McCoist in 1987 to be nominated for the award.

Denis Law is only Scot to have won the accolade over 60 years ago.

He was crowned the best player in the world in 1964 after scoring 46 goals in 42 games for Manchester United. in a single season for Manchester United

Kenny Dalglish finished runner-up in 1983, with Steve Archibald, Gordon Strachan, Graeme Souness, Jim Baxter, Jimmy Johnstone and Billy Bremner among other Scottish nominees in the past.

The favourites for this year's award include Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Barcelona pair Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Weir Nominated for Women's Ballon d'or

Scotland women's midfielder Weir is in contention for the women's award after another impressive campaign with Real Madrid.

Caroline Weir

The 30-year old played 41 games for Los Blancos, scoring 15 times across all competitions.

She was selected as part of the Liga F Team of the Season for her performances.

Weir started her career with Hibernian before making the move to England where she found success with Liverpool and Manchester City.

Since her move to Real Madrid in 2022, she has become a key player and the club's all-time top goalscorer.
