Danny Röhl happy to strengthen bond with fans after "fantastic" Dundee win
Danny Röhl was happy to strengthen his bond with Rangers fans following the comfortable 3-0 over Dundee at Dens Park.
The 36-year-old German head coach's side were ejected from the Premier Sports Cup by Celtic after extra-time in the semi-final at last Sunday then beaten 2-0 by Roma at Ibrox on Thursday night to make it four Europa League defeats out of four this season - two of them under the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.
However, goals from Nico Raskin, Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama confirmed three successive William Hill Premiership wins since taking over from Russell Martin last month to move 12 points behind league leaders Hearts while remaining five behind Celtic going into the international break.
Röhl took the acclaim of the Gers fans after the game and responded in kind and afterwards said: "I try to always have a good relationship with our fans. Respect for them, they travel everywhere.
"I see a lot of togetherness more and more.
"Again, when I look back, since I have been here, everyone goes more and more towards one direction.
"It is good. I have great support from my staff and my coaches and the players are listening and if we can bring this together with our fans then we are all going in one direction and we can build something here."
Asked whether he can get Rangers back challenging in the title race, Röhl simply pointed to the improvement in the league since he took over.
He said: “At first I’m very happy that we’ve now won three games in a row. I think when I arrived we had eight points (nine).
“Now we have nine points in three games. I think this is huge, as is keeping clean sheets.
“That’s helpful.
“To win 3-0 is good but we know our expectations are high. I’m here to build up something but not just wins.
"We want to do more but it takes steps and I think it’s important to understand that after wins, we are not straight up in one direction and after we lose it’s in another direction.
“We need to a good balance and I want to see a step forward. At the moment I see forward steps, even if everything is not perfect."
It was a third defeat in a row for Dundee to keep them second bottom of the table, one point ahead of Livingston.
However, boss Steven Pressley was not too downhearted.
He said: “There were a lot of aspects in the performance that I liked about us today.
“I liked the intensity, I liked our work ethic, I liked our energy.
"I actually thought there was periods in the first half where we were on top.
“But of course, when you are on top, you need to get that all-important goal because we know there's a nervousness around Rangers at this moment in time.
“And if we had found that elusive goal, then I think we could have really staged that comeback.”
