Revamps to Argyle Street West
A ÂŁ5.827million project to create the next Avenue in Glasgow city centre has commenced
Stretching from under the Kingston Bridge to the junction between Argyle Street, Jamaica Street and Union Street, the avenue is proposed to bring advancements and a new look to the city.
Plans for the avenue include renovations to roads and pavements, the introduction of a new cycle way, trees and potentially raingardens to reduce flooding.
Set to be complete by Autumn 2025, the avenue will also include “more attractive and accessible” routes around the city.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighbourhood Services and Assets at Glasgow City Council said “Cities across the world are going through a period of seismic change and the Avenues project is just one part of how we’re aiming to ensure Glasgow remains the thriving economic and cultural heart of Scotland that it’s been for well over a century.
He added, “More space dedicated to people and greenery makes our city a more attractive place to spend time and money in, benefiting residents and businesses alike.”
“The Argyle Street West Avenue will compliment the really positive change taking place in that part of the city centre such as world class JPMorgan Chase building and other developments scheduled for the area”.
This development comes as part of the ÂŁ115million Avenues programme funded through the Glasgow City Region City Deal, funded by the Scottish and UK Governments.
