A rapist who violently attacked two women has been jailed for eight and a half years.

Yue Zhang Zhu pounced on his first victim after he refused to let her leave a flat in Glasgow's Partick on March 30 2022.

The 30 year-old then struck again at the same property when he preyed on a second woman on June 10 2022.

Jurors heard how he was on bail at the time of the latter attack.

Zhu was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of two rape charges.

Lord Armstrong told him: "This is a grave crime against which all women should be protected.

"The courts will not flinch from making it plain to those disposed to committing such crimes that they are likely to receive significant custodial sentences."

Zhu was also put on the sex offenders list indefinitely.

The hearing was told today that he continues to protest his innocence.

Lorenzo Alonzi, defending, told the court: "For all that he maintains that position, he has said he has learned a significant lesson and that he does not have the sexual appetite he had before."
