Rangers forward Sam Lammers has joined FC Utrecht on loan.

The Dutch attacker will spend the remainder of the season in his native Netherlands, having failed to impress at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old has spent just seven months in Scotland, scoring twice in 31 appearances.

He was signed by former manager Michael Beale in the summer for £3.5 from Atalanta, penning a four-year deal.

Beale believed the Gers had signed a player who would make a real difference in the Premiership and one that he had been tracking for years.

Speaking in July, Beale said: "Sam will give us great technical and tactical quality, being able to play in a variety of attacking positions.

"He was the first player I met with as part of planning for the new season."

Lammers has seen his game time limited under current boss Philippe Clement, who is looking to add more firepower to his squad this month.

Rangers are currently in Spain for their mid-season training camp.

Their season resumes on January 20, when they travel to Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup 4th Round.
