Motorcyclist who died in M74 crash named

A motorcyclist who died in a crash on the M74 near Abington on Friday has been named as 45 year old James Martin from Linwood.

The incident happened on September 27 September 2024 near Junction 13 northbound, and involved a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a blue Ford Focus.

Mr Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was not injured.

The family of Mr Martin have asked for privacy and released a statement.

James "will be missed by everyone who knew him"

They said: “We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

“James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them.”
