Man in court accused of vandalising headstones in Barrhead cemetery

The 39-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody

A man has appeared in Paisley Sheriff Court charged with the vandalism of around 40 headstones in a Barrhead cemetery.

Grzegorz Strzelecki is accused of causing serious damage to the grounds at St Conval’s Cemetery, as well as wilful fire raising and malicious mischief.

The 39-year-old made no plea, was remanded in custody and will appear again in the next eight days.

A spokesperson for the Diocese of Paisley said: “Anyone wishing to contact the cemetery staff can do so on 0141 881 1058 or stconvalscemeteryrcdop.org.uk.”
