Man dies after being struck by van in Irvine

A man has died after being knocked down by van near a roundabout on the A78 in Irvine.

The 37-year-old was struck by a Peugeot Partner near to the Eglinton Interchange just after midnight on Friday.

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information that may assist our enquiry to contact us.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 0029 of 20 September, 2024.”
