Part of the M8 through Glasgow city centre will be closed for roadworks every night for two months in the new year.

Engineers are announcing the next stage of the major project to prop up the Woodside Viaduct, the elevated section of the motorway across the north of the city.

The road will be closed nightly on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 18 and 16, from Monday 8th January until Saturday 9th March 2024.

The closures will be in place from 10pm until 6am the following morning.

Diversion route

Traffic will be diverted off the M8 at Junction 18 onto St George’s Road, following to Garscube Road, onto Dobbie’s Loan, then back onto the M8 at Junction 16 (Craighall).

There will be eastbound slip road closures at Junctions 19 and 18, with traffic being directed to North Street and then St George’s Road to join the main diversion, as outlined above.

Drivers of older vehicles which do not meet the rules of the Glasgow Low Emission Zone will NOT be fined so long as they follow the signed diversion route at all times.
