Light The Way: Light fixtures in East End of Glasgow to turned on again
Some of them will be upgraded and others will be re-wired.
The route through Cranhill Park in the East End of Glasgow at night is about to get a whole lot brighter in a huge win for the Light The Way campaign.
The city council is working to repair, replace and re-wire the old fixtures lying broken for years.
Convener for Neighbourhood Services Ruairi Kelly told Greatest Hits Radio: "Some of them will need to be upgraded so they can take low energy bulbs and others may need re-wired.
"There is also work ongoing with Glasgow Life who manage the Beacon part of the park to ensure their infrastructure, including lighting, is looked after.
"We are also looking to put in new lighting in the play park area with funding from the Scottish Government."
In December we told you about trials of solar powered lights on the ground going live in Kelvingrove Park.
Last month a single light powered by the sun was also erected in Queen's Park.
All of these success stories come after the Light The Way meeting at Glasgow Caledonian University in September where business owners, charity leaders, politicians and the local authority met to discuss ideas.
Our reporter Callum McQuade went down to Cranhill Park to ask people their thoughts.
One man said: "When I am taking the dog out to do the toilet at night in the winter months I try to get in and out of here as quickly as possible."
Another said: "People have been reporting problems with these lights for years and it takes forever for them to get fixed."
A third added: "I would be happy to see them working again as long as our council tax isn't increased again just to pay for it."
